Link Project Proposal

My internship will take place at both the Dazzle Jazz Restaurant and Mighty Fine Productions. Both are located in Denver, Colorado.
Dazzle Jazz is a unique restaurant as it is focused around jazz music and features a different artist (sometimes two) every night of the week. Its mission is to bring jazz and delicious food to lovers music in Denver. Dazzle is unique because it focuses on the live music aspect much more than other restaurants, making the music the centerpiece and not just the background for meals.
Mighty Fine Productions (MFP) is located about 10 blocks north of Dazzle Jazz and is run by Colin Bricker. Colin is one of the best sound engineers in Denver and has been doing live sound work for over 20 years. MFP specializes in jazz recording and has two large studios, with a 23' by 17' control room. With state-of-the-art recording equipment, the studio is well-equipped to get the best sound out of the recording artists.
I will have two mentors for this internship. The first is Kevin Lee, who manages the artists at Dazzle Jazz. I talked with him when I visited Denver, and he does a variety of things for Dazzle. One of his primary jobs is booking bands, creating the calendar for the next few months of night music. He also keeps records of who has played at Dazzle and bands that he would like to come play in the future, so that there is a mix of experience and new, fresh jazz at the restaurant. Kevin can offer me experience in bookkeeping and organizing, which are helpful to any job, as well as live sound, key to any musician in today's world.
Colin Bricker will be my other mentor at MFP Colorado. He has been doing sound recording since 1998 and has been recording at MFP since 2000, so he is experienced and knowledgeable in the field. He does the sound engineering in the company. I believe that Colin can offer me a lot of insight into how recording studios work. With him, I can explore a career in music that I would not be able to experience in Durango, as we don't have this kind of recording studio in town.
My primary goal in this internship is to learn and experience other forms of making a career out of music. In Durango, the only two ways that people make money in music are music education and playing live music. Through this internship, I will learn about music recording and sound engineering, as well as running a restaurant, booking and organizing bands, and doing live sound. This will help me personally to decide whether I would like to pursue a career in music and which avenue sounds the most appealing to me.
For my LINK project, I feel that it would be relevant and interesting to record one of my own songs using what I learned at MFP Colorado. This will help me to learn how to record my own music, a valuable skill that I will certainly use in the future. At Dazzle Jazz, I can create a portfolio to help me get recognized as an artist, as well as help keep books for Dazzle.
I will need to learn about sound engineering and bookkeeping to complete the parts of my project. I'll learn from Colin how to use sound equipment and make my recordings sound the best that they can. To do this, I will have to be at full attention every time I go into the studio.
In setting up my internship, I had difficulty contacting the people I needed to hear from. I had to e-mail and call both Kevin Lee and Colin Bricker numerous times before hearing back from them. Through this, I learned that I need to be persistent and considerate of the time that others would like to spend on me. This can help to make both my life easier and the lives of my future contacts easier.
